Working with Westmorland & Furness Council and National Highways (A66 project)

Murton Parish Council is the lowest tier of local government and works closely with the newly formed (April 2023) Westmorland & Furness Council  https://www.westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk/

Westmorland & Furness Council (W & F) manages many key services in Murton Parish including planning, highways, gritting, recycling. These topics are raised regularly at Parish Council meetings.

Reporting Highways Faults – Residents are encouraged to have the location details to hand and raise the problems direct by:

Completing the highways online reporting form found on the W & F Council website, OR
Calling the Highways direct on 0300 373 3306, Monday to Friday, 8.30 am to 5.00 pm.

The online reporting form takes a few minutes to complete and will guide you to provide essential information that the team requires to effectively assess your report.  By using either method to report and providing an email address when prompted, you will receive updates on your report from W & F Highways.

To report you will need the following:

• The location of the problem, you can either plot the location on a map, use the closest postcode or what3words
• Photographs or supporting documentation if you have any

Highways-related emergency reports – The Highways online service is monitored between the hours of 08:30 – 17:00, Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays.  However if you are reporting an emergency that requires immediate attention, ie one that is likely to present an imminent threat to life or serious damage to property, call 0300 373 3306 and you call will be transferred.

W & F Council held a briefing event about the role of the Highways Service in July 2023.  The slides describing their activity can be found here:  Sustainable Transport & Highways, 19 July 2023 Parish CouncilsFinal
