Murton Cemetery

Murton Cemetery is owned and managed by Murton Parish Council and is situated between the villages of Hilton and Murton in the picturesque Eden Valley, Cumbria.

The Cemetery is mown during the summer months and maintenance carried out as necessary.  In 2023 the Parish Council contracted with local charity Fixit4Eden to mow the Cemetery.   Minor maintenance and seasonal tidying is undertaken by volunteers, often on a parish “Boon Day”. Any faults noticed in the meantime should be reported to the Parish Clerk.  The paths were refurbished in 2020.

A memorial plaque wall is available.  Please contact the Parish Clerk for details and fees.

Please address enquiries about reserving a grave space (Exclusive Right of Burial, interment, adding a memorial plaque, or reserving a space for a plaque on the wall to the Parish Clerk.

Family History Enquiries – viewings of the Cemetery and the Burial Registers can be arranged through the Parish Clerk.

Fixit4Eden is part of 4Eden (formerly Eden Mencap Society.  It is a local charity providing support, services and opportunities throughout the Eden Valley from the office based in Penrith.  Murton Parish Council is pleased to have placed the contract for the mowing of Murton Cemetery with Fixit4Eden.

The plaque wall and seating area was completed.

September 2020

The paths around the Cemetery were upgraded – thanks to all volunteers and those who donated time and equipment and to Russell Hogg & Sons for the gravel.
